CCR 4

How did you integrate technologies -software, hardware and online -in this project?
Publisher: When it was time to create our two page article I was unfamiliar with such function that publisher offered. I had already worked with publisher to create my Cover and table of contents page however, I found it difficult and time consuming to have to open up two different documents in order to get proportional settings for both pages of my article. Therefore, after deeply testing multiple of the different functions offered by the new version of publisher I was able to find the Two-page spread bottom that made the project run easier.
Phone Camera: Due to the limited number of cameras offered by our Media Studies Department for student use I was put in the situation where I had to use my only available source which was my phone, a Samsung Galaxy s6. Due to not being able to only take a regular picture I had the opportunity to explore and use all the functions provided by such. Auto mode (default), Pro mode, Selective focus mode, Panorama mode, Slow motion mode (for video recording), Fast motion mode (for video recording), Virtual shot mode and Interval shot mode.
Google Search: Like stated before, prior to the project my research techniques were basic. After having to compose multiple different posts on deep research when it came to finding specific facts on the targeted audience, use of conventions and distribution methods. I was able to find accurate sociology research pages, corporations that used a successful distribution method and thorough detailed examples of conventions

How does your project use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
Conventions are the regular or classical factors that compose a product, factors that are expected by the target audience. However, even though the targeted audience might not be fully informed on the purpose of each of the conventions or how much details falls into it, the importance of each is accounted for and is crucial for a successful product.
Throughout the research I came upon the importance on colors and the emotions created by them. In the magazine I decided to use vivid colors that would create excitement, yellow, red, white and black. Although such colors would be considered as basic (which was a risk to use them) due to being placed in areas of the cover image that helped them stand out they are able to be described as eye-catching. When stated that red the color red was used I am referring to the cover image, where the picture was taken from a specific angle (side) and a specific time (morning) of the day when the sunlight made the color of the track stand out and emit different shades.
The cover image is one (if not the only one based on personal opinion) of the most important factors used to attract buyers and make a first statement [impression]. I had the opportunity to challenge this convention by only placing an image of a track that was located around the local area, such suits the idea of having a local magazine and it ties into the theme of running. Most of the magazines that I analyzed and based my knowledge on [Runner's World], had a specific runner [the person from the feature story] as their cover image but going off of a personal experience I realized it was more eye-catching to see the image and have a featured story that talked about new local places to run at.
An actual bar code and Issue date were not created and placed on the final magazine cover however, the intend was to leave the space for that information. Once it went through the printing part of the distribution plan it could be adjusted as part of the "real" process.

CCR 3

How did your production skills develop throughout the project?
My use of new software improved, before this project I was only familiar with the basic programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Now once I chose to create a published media (magazine) I was required to learn how to use Publisher which is where I did all the design for all of my pages, even though it was not that complicated in some occasions it did become a challenge (for example being precise in the creation of a two-page spread and having correct alignment when setting up the text in the main cover.)
Throughout the project research was an essential part of the project. Based on your research was how well you were going to perform in the aspects of distribution, marketing planning, target audience and conventions. Prior to the project my research skills were not at a low level however, facing this challenge of creating a magazine that was as close as possible to a professional design, I learned to not rely on basic informational websites. I no longer settled for the basic information but had to program myself into doing research on the research I had already done in order to build a highly detailed background on the concepts that composed the overall project.
Time management was also another important factor in which I became an expert at. Prior to beginning of the process my time management was not bad however, having a set schedule and required points for every week of the school year helped me complete the project and encourage a non-stop working progress leading me to an early completion with little to no faults.
And finally I also had the opportunity of learning how to appreciate and put into action feedback given from my peers, which had a less bias view of the rough draft of my product. Once I presented it to them they had couple suggestions that definitely helped me improve the final product, not only because some of them fit my target audience (young adults individuals interested in rigorous physical activity, mostly the sport of running) but also because they had already developed different skills that I probably did not come across throughout the process. Therefore, my skill of incorporating suggestions became a lot stronger.

CCR 2

How does your project engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

The target audience intended for the project would be local Sarasota, FL runners, athletes, ranging from novice to experts in physical activity, more specifically the sport of running. Other detailed factors include the age range of the group, this being from young adults towards middle age. Also, the classes targeted are middle, upper middle and upper classes due to such being the groups that tend to buy more magazines as a form of entertainment, based n research.
The magazine represents this specific audience with similar interests and common age ranges, by using conventions to catch their attention and also through the use social media. Such was included as an engaging factor. By publicizing the magazine as a promotional advertisement, possibly creating sponsored events in the future like sponsoring local races such as the Florida West Coast Half Marathon & 5K hosted in Sarasota and collaborating with known publishing companies such as Hearst Corporation (which publishes Runner's World, the magazine that mainly inspired the process of this project) would allow a further engagement. However, in this case the only distribution method that was carried forward due to the use of restricted possible means was publications on Instagram and Facebook which are composed and/or commonly used by my target audience (age ranges and the availability of variety of interests within this section of the population that uses such apps.) For example, Instagram is used by young adults with different interests and backgrounds and Facebook which is used by middle age adults also with different backgrounds and interests.
Therefore, starting from a broad level my product would go through direct distribution. With such model the company either directly sends the product to the end consumer or when the distributing chain is not as long, an example would be a company selling through modern retail. Based off the 3 P's (Product, Price and Promotion) of the measure scale of a "Penetration Level", the more specific model that I would use would be intensive distribution which is distribution on a large-scale and display of the product in as many ways and places as possible so that the customer sells in high volume. Due to the large amount that composes my target audience my product has to be available for everyone and couldn't fall under a selective (private) distribution model.
